Floods
Today we had the kind of rain / that comes down suddenly, one moment / clouds coalesce on high, then break, / and torrents run across the parched / water-starved earth, worn smooth by fire.
Today we had the kind of rain that comes down suddenly, one moment clouds coalesce on high, then break, and torrents run across the parched water-starved earth, worn smooth by fire. The kind of rain that swallows up your senses, filling sight, sound, scent and touch, till you are one with it. Some fight it, run from it, revel in it, and still the waters fall. The kind of rain that fell like grace. You tried to hold it in your empty hands, your cupped palms lying open, Till you gave in, and let its floods envelop you completely: drowned.
